BSC appoints CEO

The social investment organisation Big Society Capital (BSC) has appointed Stephen Muers as Chief Executive Officer.

BSC is one of four operating companies overseen by the Oversight Trust.

Muers has been at BSC since 2016, working for four years as Head of Strategy and Market Development and more recently as interim CEO since May 2020. He joined BSC from the Civil Service, where he was Director, Criminal Justice Policy, before that he held senior posts in the Cabinet Office and Department for Energy and Climate Change.

Sir Stuart Etherington, Chair of the Oversight Trust welcomed the appointment, which follows a thorough process involving a wide range of candidates.

Sir Stuart said:

“We wholeheartedly congratulate Stephen on taking on the CEO role. We have been working with him in the role of Interim CEO since May 2020 and fully recognise the strengths he brings to the organisation at what is a critical time before the launch of BSC’s new strategy later this year.”
