Better Society Capital – Second Quadrennial Review Published

Sophie Kelly

Updated: Jan 30, 2025

The Oversight Trust has today published its second independent Quadrennial Review of Better Society Capital (BSC).

BSC was established in 2012 with monies from dormant bank accounts and capital investments from the four major UK high street banks. Its mission has been to grow the market in social investment in the UK. In the last 12 years the UK impact investment market has grown twelve-fold to over £10 billion. As well as detailing achievements of the organisation, the Quadrennial Review identifies a number of issues for Better Society Capital to consider as it engages in developing its future strategy.

The four issues detailed in the report are:

  1. Impact: Where should BSC strategy focus in the next phase?

  2. Sustainability: How should BSC fund its strategy?

  3. Engagement: How should BSC influence for its strategy?

  4. Organisational challenges: How should BSC organise and behave to deliver its strategy?
